The Power Booster Accessory is an optional add-on for the Tempest sensor, designed to keep it running at full power when solar energy isn’t sufficient. It recharges the Tempest’s internal battery using either wall power, AA batteries, or both. This ensures the Tempest operates optimally even in shaded or low-light conditions.

Most Tempest devices run year-round on solar power alone. However, you may need a Power Booster if your Tempest is located in constant shade, faces extended periods of overcast weather, or if its battery voltage often stays below 2.3 volts. Checking your device’s battery level in the app can help determine if you’d benefit from this accessory.

The Power Booster consists of two parts: an upper component (the wafer) that attaches between your Tempest and its mount, and a lower component (the box) that houses the power supply. You can mount the lower component using screws or zip ties and connect it via a weatherproof cable. It’s recommended to mount it somewhere protected from direct exposure to rain and snow, and to use dielectric grease on exposed metal components for added protection.

The Power Booster can operate with either AA batteries, a wall power adapter, or both. If both are connected, the system uses wall power first and switches to batteries if wall power is unavailable. Eight fresh AA lithium batteries can power the Tempest for 6-12 months without solar input, depending on environmental conditions.
